The Comeback of Film Wedding Photography in Ibiza
Why More Couples Are Falling in Love With Analog Again
There’s something about the sound of a film camera shutter — that soft click — that still makes me pause. It takes me back to when I first started photographing weddings in Ibiza. Back then, everything I shot was on film. There was no screen to check, no instant preview. You trusted the process and waited for the results.
Those early years taught me so much. How to really look, how to read light. Film slowed me down. Made me more aware. Every frame mattered. And now somehow ( maybe with the influence of Lovely Clarissa and her film cameras) , all these years later, I find myself coming back to it — and not just for nostalgia.
As an Ibiza based photographer, I’ve been noticing more and more couples (and everyone) drawn to and fascinated with the feel of film. It is the fashion and here, it’s no surprise really. Ibiza — with its golden light, dusty tones, and calm sea — was made for it.
Shooting film feels different. It makes you stop and really look. There’s a rhythm to it, a quietness. And I think that’s why it works so beautifully at weddings. Those small, in-between moments — a shared glance, a breeze catching a veil, they sit on film in a way that’s hard to replicate.
Of course, digital still plays a huge role in how I work as a (wedding) photographer. It offers flexibility and speed, which is so important during a busy wedding day. But recently I have been reaching for one of my old cameras — the ones that have been with me since the start — more and more and it feels a bit like coming home. I love the slowing down.
For couples planning a destination wedding in Ibiza, and looking for images that feel both romantic and real, film photography adds a beautiful, timeless layer. And for me, it’s a quiet return to where it all began.
I´m so glad to be offering it as an added extra in my wedding packages!
Love,
Gypsy x
