The abundance of Ibiza Wedding Celebrants
Who are they? And what do they do?
When you have been photographing weddings in one place for over 20 years, you get to work with many different people and suppliers… you see a lot of growth with newbies coming in all the time, there is always movement; and change. People, suppliers, ideas come… and go.
An Ibiza wedding is not a legal wedding, it is a blessing. Couples have to get married legally, in their country on the days, weeks, sometimes months beforehand. (If you are catholic, you can have a legal church wedding, this can be organised in one of our Ibiza churches).
When a couple gets married in Ibiza, their Ibiza wedding is THE wedding. It is the real date the anniversary gets celebrated on.
To make this blessing more real, more authentic and more meaningful it is celebrated by an Ibiza Wedding Celebrants, also called Ibiza Wedding officiants.
I saw the idea started way back when I first started photographing weddings here in Ibiza. It felt like at first the choice was to have a friend ( a good choice if you have an eloquent friend with presence, humour and the ability to perform a little.) Maybe there where a few priests who would do it, like Terry. The first more ‘humanist’ type celebrant, there was one, I can’t remember his name- it went to his head a bit and he thought he was a higher priest. LOL. He started acting like he was running a church and with his short ceremonies of 5 minutes!! Then came Gennaro for a year and after that his mother Anna for many years and many weddings, humble pies. Then it was Anna and Melchior, then it passed on to Melchior on his own. Sean has been here all along. Jean Michel also Paul, Terry and Sonia. Now the list is so extensive that I can’t name everyone. But I do know for any couples looking for an Ibiza wedding Celebrant you can find a man or a woman, who speak most languages and conduct every kind of ceremony; Religious, Formal, Traditional, More alternative, a little hint of South American or be like your best friend.
They work along side you, getting to know you both as a couple and family, to make a personal ceremony that fits just you and your Ibiza Story. There are added extras like hand tying ceremonies, sand ceremonies, poems, readings, even a celebrant who sang a few songs and told some good jokes.
Here are a few that I and my team work with on a regular basis, that is if the couple have not asked a friend, a Priest or a Rabbi to come from afar.
Have a little peak here:
Melchior, Sean, Jon-michell, Carly, Ben, Natasha, Alex, Wendy, Lucy, Nicole, Anna, Catherine, Sam, Oso, Leanne, Sunny Grant and many more I don’t know now. But would love to. Come say hi!
